Well, I changed the journal name. I like this name much better than the previous "ghostfungus."

Why Quinqueg? Suffice it to say that I've become obsessed with the number five. Not on the level of Gehn, but close. And in a stroke of pure genius or weirdness, I considered that the Latin prefix for five is quinque and also remembered the Moby Dick character Queequeg.

Yeah, it's odd, but I like it. And I really disliked ghostfungus - it didn't roll off the tongue as well.

I love how LJ actually lets you change your username like that and automatically adjusts everyone's friendlist accordingly. I need to bring that up to the deviantART guys; I've been meaning to change my name there.

Probably the best thing they do in that regard is the transfer of the friend-of list, so nobody has to refriend you. Of course, you can elect not to carry over things like that if you're paranoid or trying to escape someone or something like that.

I'm kinda disappointed with dA on that respect - they spend all this time klonking around on a new site design when they could be adding actual features. They also don't allow for account deletion. But I imagine it would free up some server space if you could have two names pointing to the same account instead of two accounts. Plus there's horrid user confusion.

By the by, that reminds me - I changed my account recently there, and wasn't sure if you got the message. It's Fionnghal now. I deleted the link to the new account 'cause I'm trying to distance myself from "ghostway".

Speaking of names, two questions come to mind:

1. What is "The Horrid MacGuffin" supposed to mean?

2. Is being able to change your username a paid-only feature? Because I don't see it anywhere under the list of settings that can be changed.

1. A MacGuffin is a basic plot device - an object used to move the plot forward but has no other purpose. I kinda dislike MacGuffins, though I do understand their usefulness. And MacGuffin happens to be a silly word, so I stuck it up there as the title.

2. The rename token service is kinda hidden for some reason. It's not a paid account feature, but it does cost money, presumably because of some server wrangling involved. If you want to rename your journal, you'll need to buy a rename token for $15. All the pertinent information can be found here
