Last week, I went out and got a new guitar. My old one, that I'd had for something like eight years, was a classical. But I'd hardly touched it, and didn't have much interest in playing classical music. So I traded it in and got a new, inexpensive acoustic.
But this week, I've found that a couple strings - most noticeably the 5th* - seem to buzz on some chords. Which is how I came to name it. Because, hey, a guitar deserves a name.
I've called it Sovremenny. The Sovremenny is a class of Russian destroyer ship, originally Project 596 Sarych, and Sarych, or сарыч, is Russian for "buzzard."
It's a bad pun combined with a lazy wikipedia search. (I wonder if that tells more about me than it should.)
*This has nothing to do with my obsession with 5, I swear! Just coincidence. Interesting choice of coincidence, though.
