Quiche?

I never realized before that the Bone books were being re-printed by Scholastic, but this time in color. Steve Hamaker, the colorist of these versions, has posted a step-by-step walkthrough of the coloring process on Jeff Smith's blog. It's well worth a look.

Looking at that example, as well as this picture of Rock Jaw, I'm struck by just how beautiful the coloring job is. It fits very nicely with the black-and-white version of Bone. In fact, I'm very tempted to go and buy some of the new books, just for the color.

Now I do have to buy the books all over again, because the color is lovely.

My first view of Bone ever was the colorized version of the first volume, reprinted in Disney's Adventures Magazine, so I didn't even realize it had ever not been in color until I saw one of Rain's icons (the one above, in black and white form). And coincidentally, the page Steve's shown coloring is from the book I borrowed during my trip to Columbus last month.

Anyway, for what it's worth, the walkthrough didn't really tell me anything I din't already know -- and already use. But then, I suppose you can't really teach the other stuff.
