"Hell is other people."
Feb. 18th, 2006 08:20 pmSo, for next week's Mythology class we have reading on various mythologies' afterlifes. The snippet on the Hindu version of hell was particularly interesting. They have over two dozen "sections" of their hell, with each being very appropriately and descriptively named:
Horrifying, Most Horrifying, Dark, Utter Dark, Wheel of Time, Foundationless, Diarrhea, Forest of Sword Blades, Burning Vat, Thorny, Saw-Toothed, Dog-Eating, Pincers, Red Hot Iron Balls, Groat Gravel, Horrible, Ash River, Worm-Eating, Blood- and Pus-Eating, Sharp, Wheel, Drying Up, Endless, Slime Eating, Pressing Machine, Scorpion-Eating, Feces and Urine, and Wolf-Eating.
Lovely, isn't it? The names are descriptive, but it still leaves so many painful possibilities. It's like Dante on caffeine.
